Why Restorative Yoga? Why Now?
Daily life is incredibly stressful, especially in an urban environment. We spend a great deal of energy just trying to survive, often running on adrenaline (the “fight or flight response”) until we burn out. Now more than ever, we need a slower, deeper yoga practice that helps us regain our equilibrium and combat the stresses of modern life. Restorative yoga is one such practice that invites the body’s “relaxation response,” calms the nervous system, and quiets the mind….

A One-Day CRASH COURSE in Energy Flow and Manifesting with Leza Lowitz at Sun and Moon Yoga

Monday/National holiday, January 9, 2017 9:00am-4pm

Do you feel guilty having plenty? How do you approach giving and receiving? Do you love what you do? Does something always seem to stop you from pursuing your dreams?
Money and abundance, like everything else in the universe, are forms of energy. They have certain spiritual laws of flow. What is your attitude towards money and abundance? Where did it come from? Do you give yourself permission to have abundance?

armb1Anatomy for Yoga Instructors with Yvonne Jaques
20 hour TTC at Sun & Moon Yoga, Gotanda

January 27, 28, 29, 30, 4:30 - 9:30pm
Japanese translation by Kazuko Ikegawa

An anatomy course like no other.
Understanding the structure and key components of our physical body anatomy enables us to connect more deeply to our subtle body anatomy. Feeling and experiencing movement as energetic potential before it actualizes into mobilizing us is a profound way to develop a strong and centered yoga asana practice that spontaneously moves us into the realm of the subtle body and allows this deep and crucial connection to the central channel which is the core objective of yoga practice. Asana is ultimately intended to draw us deep within to the deepest states of meditation.

Community Support Report

oshika_library2When Sun and Moon Yoga opened in Tokyo over a decade ago, we put Community classes on the schedule, where all the profit would be donated to charity. People said it would never fly in status-conscious Japan. Of course, we didn’t listen….Sun and Moon Yoga’s COMMUNITY Class funds helped to open this library in Oshika, a town that was devastated by the tsunami on 3-11-11, thanks to Caroline Pover’s efforts and the efforts and contributions of many. Now many young kids and all members of that community can have books to read and a quiet, clean, warm, homey place to enjoy them–and a garden! Thanks, Tokyo Yoga Community and Em Bettinger, who teaches the popular Community classes. Let’s keep walking the talk!

up-from-the-sea_smallUp from the Sea” recommended by Barnes & Noble!

Barnes & Noble Teen Blog recommends Leza’s novel “Up from the Sea” as one of Top 5 Teen historical novels.
This is particularly sweet for Leza, as when she was a teenager herself (19) she worked at Barnes & Noble’s flagship store in Manhattan as a bookseller to help pay her way through college and support her dream of becoming a writer.

Here Comes the Sun: A Journey to Adoption in 8 Chakras
By Leza Lowitz

hctsAt 30, Californian Leza Lowitz is single and traveling the world, which suits her just fine. Coming of age in Berkeley during the feminist revolution of the 1970s, she learned that marriage and family could wait. Or could they? When Leza moves to Japan and falls in love with a Japanese man, her heart opens in ways she never thought possible. But she’s still an outsider, and home is far away. Rather than struggle to fit in, she opens a yoga studio and makes a home for others. Then, at 44, Leza and her Japanese husband seek to adopt—in a country where bloodlines are paramount and family ties are almost feudal in their cultural importance. She travels to India to work on herself and back to California to deal with her past. Something is still not complete until she learns that when you give a little love to a child, you get the whole world in return. The author’s deep connection to yoga shows her that infertile does not mean inconceivable. By adapting and adopting, she transcends her struggles and embraces the joys of motherhood. “Here Comes the Sun proves that love is not bound by blood. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in that which connects us, holds us together, and makes us family.”—MC Yogi

About Jet Black & The Ninja Wind
Seventeen-year-old Jet Black is a ninja. There’s only one problem—she doesn’t know it. Others do, however, and they’re scheming to capture her and uncover her secrets. When her mother dies, Jet must go to Japan to protect a family treasure hidden in her ancestral land. She’s terrified, but if Jet won’t fight to protect her world, who will? Stalked by bounty hunters and desperately in love with the man who’s been sent to kill her, Jet must be strong enough to protect the treasure, preserve an ancient culture, and save a sacred mountain from destruction. To emerge triumphant, can she become the ninja wind?

Find out in Book One of the Kuroi Clan trilogy. Keep an eye out for the movie version, coming to a theater near you!

“Adventure, fantasy, ancient wisdom, and imminent danger–Jet Black meets them all head on. Like The Hunger Game’s Katniss Everdeen, she’s a fighter with heart. A new teen hero has arrived.” —Barry Lancet, author of Japantown
