virtuous-heart200The Three Jewels in One Book

We all know how powerful the three jewels–buddha, dharma, sangha–are. In modern terms, we could call these our teachers, the teachings, and the community. All three have been life-saving tonics in these troubled times. And what a great joy when all three come together in life.

Fifteen years ago, my dear friend Amanda Giacomini (10,000 Buddhas) told me about her visit to India’s sacred Ajanta caves, and how inspired she was by the animal drawings there. She’d started to paint them, and invited me to collaborate with my own creative offering, retelling the ancient Jataka tales. I was honored to join her, and privileged now to share with you the result: a beautiful book of Buddhist wisdom perfect for reading, sharing and gifting to others.

Virtuous Heart: Twelve Buddhist Stories to Awaken and Inspire,” offers a beautiful selection of ancient wisdom tales of the Buddha updated for our times. In these stories, Buddha is incarnated as the devoted elephant, the patient ox, the compassionate snake, the sorry sun, and more, to teach humans about devotion, kindness, honesty, loyalty, forgiveness, compassion and self-sacrifice. These beautiful stories appeal to the soft heart within each of us—the virtuous heart that radiates truth, beauty, love, and connection in its care for all beings on this fragile earth.
Now available in ebook/paperback through Kindle in US or Kindle in Japan.

Up from the Sea” recommended by Barnes & Noble!

Barnes & Noble Teen Blog recommends Leza’s novel “Up from the Sea” as one of Top 5 Teen historical novels.
This is particularly sweet for Leza, as when she was a teenager herself (19) she worked at Barnes & Noble’s flagship store in Manhattan as a bookseller to help pay her way through college and support her dream of becoming a writer.

About Jet Black & The Ninja Wind
Seventeen-year-old Jet Black is a ninja. There’s only one problem—she doesn’t know it. Others do, however, and they’re scheming to capture her and uncover her secrets. When her mother dies, Jet must go to Japan to protect a family treasure hidden in her ancestral land. She’s terrified, but if Jet won’t fight to protect her world, who will? Stalked by bounty hunters and desperately in love with the man who’s been sent to kill her, Jet must be strong enough to protect the treasure, preserve an ancient culture, and save a sacred mountain from destruction. To emerge triumphant, can she become the ninja wind?

Find out in Book One of the Kuroi Clan trilogy. Keep an eye out for the movie version, coming to a theater near you!

“Adventure, fantasy, ancient wisdom, and imminent danger–Jet Black meets them all head on. Like The Hunger Game’s Katniss Everdeen, she’s a fighter with heart. A new teen hero has arrived.” —Barry Lancet, author of Japantown
